Every May tens of thousands attend Orlando Fringe, one of the largest and longest-running Fringe festivals in the world. Patrons have over a hundred live performances to choose from with creative shows ranging from comedy to drama to musicals and everything in between. A big problem was evident however — the e-commerce platform used made discovery difficult as users would need to visit each show page individually to get details.
I opted to put my development skills to the test and created a web app that first loaded the show content into a database, then presented everything to users in a cleaner format with search and genre filter options. In addition to a list view, a full calendar view displaying a full day’s shows at each venue was created for those who wished to plan a full itinerary. Lastly, users once logged in could save their favorites and itinerary choices and even share with friends.
This was an unofficial project created as a labor of love. Changes to their e-commerce platform in recent years made it difficult to keep going without any support, but the project could be revived upon cooperation if desired. (2022)
