The Intro to Multimedia class assignment was simple, even by late 90s standards: digitize a minute of VHS video and edit into something new. As an aspiring visual effects aficionado, of course I took things way too far. Blending stills of my campus with footage from the movie “Independence Day,” I showed a quick story of the university getting pummeled by an alien attack. Aside from some concerned questions at first from officials, the student body ate it up (and I got an A+). That it was made over four weeks using a tired Packard Bell computer with a Pentium 133 and a 1 GB hard drive was nothing short of a miracle.
